Heuer Monaco Chronograph circa 1970

In the 1971 film LeMans, Steve McQueen rocks a blue Monaco while he drives for the Gulf Porsche team.  While this is the gray dial variation which launched in 1972, it offers a more wearable and versatile aesthetic.  While service history is unknown, the manual wind caliber 11-I movement is running at approximately +15 seconds a day with a 238 amplitude (your mileage may vary).

HIGHLIGHTS

What we dig:

  • Cultural significance
  • Substantial feel
  • It is a “strap monster”: looks killer in almost any strap color like a Speedy
  • Very sporty but can pull off formal occasions as well

What you should know:

  • It is a very vintage watch with vintage charm but that comes with knowing it should not be treated like a modern one– comparable to a 1970s car but easier
  • Signs of honest wear but no damage.
  • The chronograph functions properly but not to be run at all times–crown on the left side manually winds clockwise
  • Timegrapher data and videos available upon request
