Rolex Polar Explorer II ref. 16570 circa 1991 X Serial
Coined the “Polar” for the white dial and black surrounds on markers, the Explorer II is also a red hand GMT. The steel bezel is fixed (non-rotating) and has both a radiant brushing and taper. While most sports watches sport a black dial, the Polar is an easy match and solid daily choice making it one of the most iconic light dial time pieces—even better—it plays nicely in a watch collection as it pairs nicely with a darker Speedy or Sub.
What we dig:
Steel bezel on 40mm steel case
Slim vintage style 20mm Oyster bracelet
Appears to be unpolished
The clean clean 2-liner look with classic 40mm case proportions
What you should know:
The 1991 X-serial variation is a bit different from others as the “O” in Rolex is extra round and the markers tend to patina differently
Tritium lume is dead (appropriate)
Will accommodate your wrist size
3185 automatic caliber movement
Timegrapher data and videos available upon request
